Paint out/Remove false positives from DVO Dust

I've been running DVO Dust but it constantly generates numerous false positives in my footage, even in Light mode.

When I make manual changes to an image frame in DVO Fix, I can go back in and erase them, but this doesn't work for the changes that DVO Dust made.

Is there a way to remove some of the changes DVO Dust applied and remove these kinds of false positives?

I would think it was the first feature added to the plugin other than its core functionality because it's only natural for it to create false positives that need to be removed, but I just can't find it.

Thanks for any info and pointing me in the right direction.

  • Hello The Beyonder ,

I've made this video here showing how to use DryClean and the Matte Paint tool, and the concept is the same:

     - Apply the FX to the shot as an FX layer instead of InputFX so you can have access to the tools

     - Use the Difference modes compared against the source to identify false positives

     - Use matte paint to recover the original patch

    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you, Gustavo. This works really well.

However, I have a follow-up question to this. If I painted something out at some point and I now want to go back and "undo" it, how would I bring it back? I tried the "Erase" button in the "Matte Paint" section but it didn't do anything.

    Thanks a bunch!

    • The Beyonder Sorry for the delayed response! You can click the Clear button. If you use the Erase function you need to paint the area again using either the Brush or Rectangle to delete the fix.
