Scene Cut vs Scene Edit
In my workflow it's rare that I'll ever want a scene edit. Is there a way to have scene detection create cuts rather than edits?

Hi Craig Rogers we don't have a preference to select which one to use as default, but you can wait for the scene detection to be done, select all the clips, and click on this button at the bottom toolbar section of the interface to change between scene and edit cuts:

I am working on feature films imported via EDLs mostly. I had the impression that Frame Lock and Dry Clean produce more errors with scene cuts than scene edits. Though scene cuts should be the right to use as there are no actual handles or am I totally wrong?

All DVO tools prefers that the Edits are Scene cuts rather then Scene Edits, just as you say that there are no handles. the only one that could use edits is actually Framelock if the same camera have been used throughout all the scenes. but I would still recommend Scene cut processing as this will be safer to use and less false positives.

Warner Smith you can let scene detection finish its analysis, select all clips, then use the button on the interface to change from one mode to the other.

I don't be able to find an explanation about the difference between:
- Scene cut
- Scene edit
What is their function?

The main difference is about how we process handles outside of the current edit.
- If you have a scene detected composition, scene cut will have the blue line and, any DVO you apply will only use the exact cut duration.
- If you use the Edit Cut, black lines indicate the cut and, any DVO you apply will try to calculate from handles outside of the current edit
The processing result of DVOs can be very different when using different cuts, so make sure about your workflow needs. I added a document here that explains it a bit more, check out pages 26 and 27.
